Tasting Classes

The following tasting classes are held at the Valencia Wine Company wine bar unless otherwise noted. Conducted in an informal seminar style, all classes are accessible to anyone regardless of tasting experience. Lasting about 1 ½ hours, they are limited to 15 participants. Reservations are required. Cancellations within 48 hours of the event will result in forfeiture of payment. Cancellations prior to this period are credited toward another class.

High End/Low End, Saturday, March 22nd, 4-5:30pm ($30)

You’ve heard all the hubbub about “two-buck chuck” and how it beats more expensive wines in competitions. Now is a chance to see for yourself. A variation on our popular blind tasting class, you will be challenged to guess what price range each wine falls under. Settle for yourself once and for all whether wine prices really matter.

Wine Tasting Basics, Saturday, April 5th, 4-5:30pm ($30)

Everything from how to uncork a bottle to critically analyzing a wine’s quality is covered in this class. A perfect opportunity to ask every silly question that has ever popped into your head about the cryptic world of wine appreciation. Not just for beginners, this is a chance to taste in a short period of time a lot of excellent wines that you’ve probably never tasted.

Understanding French Wines, Saturday, April 19nd, 4-5:30pm ($40)

What we know as fine wine today began in France, and to this day the wine world is significantly governed by French wine styles, to which winemakers everywhere return again and again as a paradigm. Learn in this class how to decipher sometimes perplexing labels, and gain a foothold on wine’s historical origins.

Blind Tasting, Saturday, April 26nd, 4-5:30pm ($30)

See if you can tell the difference between a $10 and a $50 bottle. Placed in paper bags, with no information while tasting them, the wines’ identities will be disclosed gradually. For experienced and novice tasters alike, this class is very instructive, affording a great palate training opportunity—and no other class is more fun.
